Your computer, working again.

I’m Jacob. I get computers, Wi-Fi, printers, and email working again for homes and small businesses around the Kanawha Valley, by phone or remote session first and in person when it’s needed.

Email address pending confirmation, so please call for now.

Problems like these

  • The QuickBooks PC at a dental office’s front desk won’t open the company file.
  • The church livestream computer has to work before Sunday.
  • The printer dropped off the Wi-Fi after someone swapped the router.

What I work on

At home

  • Remote help. We work through it together over the phone, in a remote session you approve and can watch.
  • Home visits. When it’s easier in person, I come to you.
  • Virus, malware and scam-call cleanup. I remove the malware, look for how it got in, and help you secure your accounts after a scam call.
  • New computer setup. I set up your new computer and move your files over from the old one.
  • Upgrades: memory and SSD · Hardware repair. More memory or a faster drive, and repairs to power supplies, laptop screens, keyboards, and batteries.
  • Custom PC builds. A computer built to your spec, from the parts plan through assembly and testing.

Also: computer diagnostics, account security setup, Windows reinstall and data transfer, cleaning and cooling service, and liquid-damage assessment.

At work

  • Business IT support, as needed. Phone and remote help for your team, without a contract.
  • On-site business support. Hands-on help at your office when something can’t be fixed remotely.
  • Office network survey. I walk through your office network and write up clear recommendations.
  • Network projects. Office networks designed and installed, scoped and estimated before any work starts.
  • Monthly IT support plans. Ongoing care for your computers and team, under a written agreement.

Some repairs happen at my bench. We’ll sort out the hand-off when you call.

Custom PC builds

Planned with you, built, and tested.

How I price work

Labor prices are listed below, and parts are quoted separately. Once I know what’s wrong, you get a written estimate, and nothing starts until you reply “approved.” Parts go on the estimate and aren’t ordered without your OK. If the job grows, I stop and ask. If a repair would cost more than the machine is worth, I’ll say so and show you a replacement option.

Jacob, owner of NorthStar IT Services

I’m Jacob.

I live in Elkview and run NorthStar IT Services. When something breaks, I’ll tell you what’s wrong in words that make sense, lay out your options, and let you choose.

No new programs without your OK. If a fix needs new software on your computer, I tell you what it is and ask first.

Questions

I will never call, text, or pop up on your screen out of the blue to say your computer has a virus, so if someone does, hang up and call me at (304) 542‑6790.

Do you come to me?
Yes, if you’d like. I can handle most problems by phone or remote session. When it needs hands, I’ll come to your home or office.
How much does it cost?
Labor prices are on the price sheet, and parts are quoted separately. You get a written estimate before anything starts.
How does remote help work?
Remote sessions happen only with your approval. You can watch everything I do and end the session at any time. You type your own passwords, and I’ll never ask you to send one.
Do you work with businesses or just homes?
Both: a single laptop at home, or every computer in a small office.
